At the core of World is Orb, a specialized kiosk that uses visible and infrared light, powered by NVIDIA Jetson, to confirm a user's humanness while preserving privacy. Once verified, users receive a World ID—a cryptographically secure, anonymous credential stored in their device, never shared back to World’s servers.
The ecosystem also supports Mini Apps, lightweight dApps within the World App, leveraging World ID and wallet capabilities. A new Developer Rewards program and grant funding encourage builders to create human-first apps, fostering innovation in areas like finance, social media, and identity services.
World's launch into the U.S. started in six tech hubs—including San Francisco and Austin—with 7,500 Orbs planned by July 2025. It’s also now available in the UK, with Orb stations across London and plans for expansion to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Belfast, and Glasgow.
Strategic partnerships with Visa, Stripe, Match Group, and Razer integrate human verification into gaming, dating, and payments. For example, World ID authentication enhances trust in dating apps and ensures gameplay authenticity in gaming ecosystems.
Combatting digital fraud: As AI-generated content blurs lines between humans and bots, World’s proof-of-human system helps restore trust in online interactions.
Privacy-first model: All biometric data remains on the device, and Orbs delete images after verification, aligning with World’s principles of anonymity, choice, and transparency.
Building digital identity networks: With millions onboarded, World supports new financial inclusion via verified credentials without revealing personal identity.
