What If Upgrading Your Bike Didn’t Mean Replacing It?

Skarper offers a system that turns standard bicycles into e-bikes using a single detachable unit. The device clips onto the bike’s rear disc brake via a component called DiskDrive®, avoiding changes to the frame or wheels. Inside the unit is a 250W motor and a rechargeable battery, supporting assisted speeds up to 25 km/h. The system responds to terrain using built-in sensors, adjusting the motor’s output based on the slope and rider effort. With a full charge, it provides up to 50 km of range in Eco mode or 30 km in Turbo mode, recharging fully in 2.5 hours. The system is compatible with common disc brake sizes, making it usable across many bike models.

The design also supports daily use without requiring full-time electric assistance. Riders can remove the unit when not needed, allowing the bike to function normally with its disc brakes. This makes cleaning, storage, and transport easier, while keeping the core bike intact. Rather than introduce an entirely new machine, this approach adds a temporary function that extends what the bike can already do—suited to real-world needs like commuting, errands, or navigating changing terrain.

Because the Skarper unit attaches and detaches easily, it also offers practical benefits for storage and theft prevention. The removable design means users can take the power unit with them when leaving the bike unattended, reducing the risk of tampering or loss. This portability also makes it easier to charge the unit indoors, without needing to move or secure the entire bicycle—useful for riders in apartments, offices, or shared spaces where outlets may not be near storage areas.
