VivoBiome: Your Feet Are the Blueprint

Every shoe ever made was built around an average foot. The VivoBiome Tabi Gen 02 is built around yours, scanned, printed, and shaped to the exact dimensions of your feet and nothing else.

The Problem With Every Shoe Ever Made

Most shoes are built around a standard shape. It fits the average foot reasonably well and almost nobody's foot perfectly. Narrow toe boxes stop the toes from spreading naturally. Thick cushioning cuts off the feedback the foot needs to move well. Rigid soles prevent the muscles from working the way they were designed to. Over time, all of that weakens the feet that support everything above them. According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, the vast majority of people end up with some kind of foot problem. VivoBiome was built around a different idea. The shoe is the problem. The foot is the solution.

VivoBiome Tabi Gen 02: Scan-to-Print Personalised Footwear

Every pair of Tabi Gen 02 sandals starts with a Volumental foot scan. The scan captures the exact shape of the wearer's feet. That shape becomes the blueprint. A pair of sandals is then printed to match it precisely, shaped for those specific feet and no others. The toes have room to spread and grip naturally. The sole is just 2mm thick, thin enough for the thousands of nerve endings in the foot to read the ground and send feedback to the brain. Flex zones and a split-toe design let the foot move freely with every step. The CARBON BL6 PU foam sole weighs around 91 grams per sandal. Light enough to forget it is there.

Three Things the Tabi Gen 02 Does Differently

Three principles sit at the heart of the design. First, a foot-shaped fit that gives the toes room to splay, load, and grip, building a stable base that standard shoes never allow. Second, a thin sole that keeps the foot connected to the ground, activating the natural feedback system that cushioning suppresses. Third, a flexible construction that lets muscles and tendons work with every step rather than being held still inside a rigid shoe. A study by Curtis found that daily activity in minimalist footwear increases foot strength by up to 60 percent in six months.

A Platform Built Around Less Waste

VivoBiome is built on four principles. Made-to-order, made-to-measure, made locally, and made-to-be-remade. The platform was developed in partnership with Carbon for printing technology and materials, and manufactured by Oechsler. Because every pair is printed on demand, nothing is made until it is needed. Mobile scanning and semi-bespoke models are in development for future releases.
