Standard
drones are too big and too risky to fly inside a house, through a hallway, or
around people at an event. They bump into walls, trigger safety concerns, and
lack the precision needed for tight spaces. That limitation created demand for
a different kind of drone, one small and protected enough to fly indoors while
still capturing cinematic-quality video. BETAFPV, a Shenzhen-based company
founded by Chen Zeli and Nie Yong, designed the Pavo20 Pro II as an indoor
cinematic drone that fits in the palm of a hand.
The
drone weighs just 116.2 grams with its camera system installed, roughly the
weight of a smartphone. It spans less than 94 millimeters across. Despite that
size, it captures high-definition footage through DJI's video transmission
technology, available in three compatible options: the O4, O4 Wide, and O4 Pro.
The pilot wears goggles that display a live camera feed, allowing precise
navigation through rooms, corridors, and complex environments at speed.
What
separates this category of drone from standard models is the ducted propeller
design. Each of the four propellers sits inside a protective ring made from
thickened PA12 material. These rings shield the blades from contact with walls,
furniture, or people, reducing the risk of damage on both sides. For indoor
filming, this protection is essential. It allows the drone to bounce off
obstacles and keep flying rather than crashing.
The
frame itself assembles with just four screws and uses embedded nuts, so
building or repairing it takes minutes rather than hours. Three guided mounting
points ensure everything aligns correctly without guesswork. The propellers are
screw-fixed to the motors, which prevents them from loosening during fast
maneuvers. A redesigned internal plate supports all three DJI camera units
without modifications, and a specialized vibration-dampening bracket holds the
camera steady for smooth, shake-free footage even during aggressive flying.
The
indoor cinematic drone comes in two power configurations. The lighter version
prioritizes agility and responsiveness, delivering up to nine minutes of flight
time. The more powerful version extends that to ten and a half minutes while
maintaining a strong thrust-to-weight ratio. Both options use high-performance
brushless motors paired with three-blade propellers optimized for smooth,
reliable power delivery.
The
drone arrives with its flight settings pre-tuned for DJI camera systems. Pilots
select their setup through an on-screen display and can start flying
immediately without manual adjustments. For filming in bright conditions,
optional light-reduction filters in three strengths help control exposure,
alongside a protective filter for the lens. The battery compartment
accommodates multiple battery sizes, letting pilots choose between lighter
weight for indoor work or larger capacity for longer outdoor sessions.
Losing
a small drone after a crash in tall grass or dense terrain is a common
frustration. The Pavo20 Pro II addresses this with a built-in audible buzzer
that activates after an impact, guiding pilots to the exact crash location by
sound. For pilots who want position tracking and automatic return-to-home
functionality, the drone includes two mounting brackets compatible with widely
available GPS modules.
For
flying at dusk, dawn, or at night, the indoor cinematic drone integrates a
color-changing LED light strip along its body. The strip offers ten preset
lighting patterns and seven colors, switchable at the press of a button. Beyond
visual appeal, these lights help pilots maintain sight of the drone's
orientation at a distance, which is critical when flying outdoors in low-light
conditions. The lighting system uses the same strip featured in BETAFPV's
limited-edition night flying models.
Small
protected drones have carved out a specific role in the filming world. Real
estate agents use them to create immersive walkthrough tours of properties.
Event videographers fly them through wedding venues and concert halls. Content
creators on social media use them to capture sweeping indoor shots that would
be impossible with a handheld camera or a standard drone. The first-person
perspective these drones provide, where the viewer sees exactly what the drone
sees, creates a sense of movement and immersion that traditional filming
methods cannot replicate.
However,
flying these drones requires skill. There is no autopilot, no obstacle
avoidance, and no automated flight paths. The pilot controls every movement in
real time through goggles, which means the quality of the footage depends
