is the company's electric semi-truck built to address that specific category.
Tesla states Semi offers up to 500 miles of range on a full charge, at an
energy consumption rate of 1.7 kWh per mile, with low operating costs
positioned as a core part of the truck's design rather than a side benefit.
Tesla
built two distinct charging options into the Semi ecosystem rather than a
single solution for every situation. Megacharger delivers up to 1.2 MW of
power, recovering up to 60% of range in 30 minutes, aimed at drivers who need
to get back on the road quickly during a break or pit stop. Basecharger takes
the opposite approach, delivering a lower 120 kW of power to add up to 60% of
range over four hours, designed specifically for longer stops at a depot or
overnight parking rather than a quick turnaround. Tesla's expanding public
Megacharger network places stations where drivers already stop, and the truck's
Trip Planner adds charging stops directly into a route rather than requiring
separate planning.
Semi
runs on three all-electric motors paired with an independent front suspension,
which Tesla states reduces road vibration for a smoother ride, while the
electric powertrain delivers instant torque without any gears to shift. Inside,
the cabin is built around a central driving position that Tesla states improves
visibility and makes entering and exiting easier and safer. The cabin itself
has enough headroom to stand, a place to hang a coat, and heated or ventilated
seating, with acoustic glass and sound damping materials intended to keep road
noise out on long drives. Over-the-air software updates deliver new features
and improvements to the truck remotely rather than requiring a service visit.
Tesla
for Business, the company's integrated fleet management platform, gives an
operator three specific tools for running a fleet remotely: monitoring vehicle
locations and managing driver access, viewing real-time data including charge
status, tire pressure, and energy consumption, and scheduling service
appointments, approving estimates, and processing invoices, all from one
dashboard rather than separate systems.
Tesla
backs Semi with a growing network of Service Centers offering same-day support
for common repairs, alongside Tesla-approved collision centers for more serious
damage. Remote diagnostics help identify problems before a truck needs to come
in at all, and Mobile Service brings a technician directly to the truck when a
repair is needed and eligible. Parts are stocked at Service Centers, with
distribution centers carrying a fuller range to support minimal downtime when
something needs replacing.
