Sandbar built Stream as a private voice
wearable ring where the microphone only activates while a finger is actively
pressed against it, and stops the moment it's released. The company describes
Stream as a self-extension rather than an independent assistant, designed to
support a person's own thinking, capture notes, and dictate across apps rather
than act as a separate digital companion. Early production batches have already
sold out, with a new batch currently shipping in limited quantities.
Speak by Pressing, Confirm by Feeling
Stream's core interaction is push-to-talk and
release to send: a person holds the ring's touchpad to speak, and releasing it
sends the note or message, confirmed through silent haptic feedback rather than
a sound or screen notification. Sandbar states the private mic is built to pick
up a wearer's voice clearly even in loud environments, letting someone dictate
a note or send a message without needing to speak loudly in public. Beyond
voice, the same touchpad handles simple gesture controls: a tap interrupts or
plays and pauses music, a double tap skips to the next song, and a swipe
adjusts volume, all without needing to touch a phone.
An Assistant Modeled on Talking to Yourself
Stream's software is built around what Sandbar
calls Inner Voice, a response voice partially personalized based on a wearer's
own voice the first time they use the ring, intended to feel closer to thinking
out loud than talking to a separate artificial companion. The company states
Inner Voice can be updated, deleted, or switched to a non-personalized voice at
any time. Functionally, Stream handles three core tasks: capturing and
organizing notes, holding real-time voice chat with access to memory and web search,
and dictating speech to text across other apps on a connected device. The ring
works with or without earbuds; without them, Stream responds through
notifications and silent haptics, while a connected earbud or speaker lets it
respond out loud for talking through ideas or recalling saved notes.
Built to Sit on a Finger All Day
The ring itself combines an aluminum outer
surface with a resin inner surface and a glass touchpad, rated water-resistant
against rain and handwashing. It's available in sizes 5 through 13, worn on
the index finger, with a free sizing kit included to help a buyer find the
right fit before committing. Sandbar states the ring offers all-day battery
life on a single charge, recharged through a universal charger over USB-C.
Connectivity runs over Bluetooth to a paired phone, though Sandbar notes that
notes remain accessible offline even without an internet connection, while
features like voice chat and web search require one.
What's Free, and What Stays Private
Sandbar states that creating notes, controlling
music, and a set weekly amount of dictation are always free, with no
subscription required for that base functionality; unlimited dictation, voice
chat, and memory are available as a separate, optional upgrade. On privacy, the
company states personal information is encrypted both at rest and in transit,
that it does not sell personal data, and that a user can request access to or
deletion of their own stored data at any time, positioning its revenue model around
selling the product itself rather than user information. The companion app runs
on iOS, with dictation also available on Mac. Every order comes with a 30-day
return policy and a 1-year warranty, and Sandbar states preorders remain fully
refundable.
