In May 2025, Saudi Arabia introduced HUMAIN, a national AI company founded under the Public Investment Fund (PIF). The initiative is designed to support the country’s goal of becoming a global technology leader by building a complete AI technology stack—from data centers and cloud infrastructure to large language models and AI applications.
What Is HUMAIN?
HUMAIN is tasked with developing AI-native infrastructure and platforms tailored to the Kingdom’s needs and ambitions. Its mission includes:
Building data centers and cloud platforms that serve as the backbone for AI services.
Developing region-specific models such as ALLAM, an Arabic multimodal large language model, created in partnership with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).
Launching AI applications that support sectors including energy, finance, and urban development.
The company’s activities span four core areas: Infrastructure, Cloud, Data & Models, and Applications.
How It Works
HUMAIN operates through a layered approach:
Infrastructure: Partnering with NVIDIA, AMD, and Qualcomm to build high-performance computing and AI-native data centers.
Cloud Services: Collaborating with Amazon Web Services and others to deploy scalable AI cloud platforms.
Model Development: Focusing on Arabic language AI tools that support regional use cases.
AI Applications: Creating practical solutions for smart cities, predictive maintenance, energy systems, and digital governance.
Why It Matters
The launch of HUMAIN signals Saudi Arabia’s intent to move from AI user to AI builder—creating domestic capacity across all layers of the technology stack. This is expected to:
Support Vision 2030 goals to diversify the economy beyond oil.
Create high-value, tech-focused jobs.
Enable sovereign digital infrastructure and AI capabilities in the region.
