Imagine pointing a projector at a flowing curtain and, within a second, a
perfectly aligned image appears. No remote, no calibration, no adjustments.
That is exactly what journalists witnessed when Samsung unveiled the Samsung
Freestyle+ at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The demonstration showed a device that
can instantly adapt its projection to the surfaces people actually live with —
uneven walls, fabric, and corners.
The Freestyle+ represents Samsung’s third generation of portable smart
projectors. Unlike earlier models that required careful positioning and flat
walls, this version is designed to automatically adapt to real environments.
The upgrade centers on a new technology system called AI OptiScreen,
which allows the projector to adjust the image in real time depending on where
it is pointed.
The Samsung Freestyle+ is a compact cylindrical projector capable of
projecting a screen up to 100 inches on a variety of surfaces including
walls, ceilings, floors, and curtains. It runs Samsung’s Tizen operating
system, providing built-in Smart TV functionality without the need for
external streaming devices.
Users can access platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and
Samsung TV Plus, as well as cloud gaming through Samsung Gaming Hub,
which supports services like Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce Now, Amazon
Luna, and Utomik.
The main technological shift comes from AI OptiScreen, a system
designed to remove the manual setup that traditionally comes with portable
projectors.
AI OptiScreen combines several automated features that continuously
adjust the projected image.
3D Auto Keystone automatically corrects image distortion when the projector is angled
toward walls, corners, or uneven surfaces.
Real-Time Focus maintains image sharpness even if the projector is moved or repositioned
during use.
Screen Fit detects the edges of a compatible projection screen and aligns the image
precisely within its boundaries.
Wall Calibration analyzes the color and texture of the surface being used — including
patterned wallpaper or colored walls — and compensates to improve the final
image.
Together, these functions allow the projector to adapt instantly to its
surroundings, eliminating most of the adjustments users normally expect when
setting up projection systems.
Earlier versions of the Freestyle projector received criticism for
limited brightness in rooms with ambient light. Samsung addressed this issue in
the Freestyle+.
The device now reaches 430 ISO lumens, nearly doubling the
brightness of the original 2022 model. This improvement makes the projector
more practical for everyday living spaces rather than only dark rooms.
The device maintains its cylindrical design with a 180-degree rotating
hinge, allowing projection at different angles, including ceilings, without
requiring additional mounting equipment.
The Freestyle+ includes a 360-degree speaker designed to
distribute audio throughout the room rather than projecting sound in one
direction. For users with compatible Samsung soundbars, the projector also
supports Q-Symphony, allowing synchronized audio playback between
devices.
Samsung’s Gaming Hub enables cloud-based gaming directly through
the projector, meaning players can access streaming game libraries without a
console connected to the device.
Voice interaction is supported through Vision AI Companion,
Samsung’s updated AI assistant platform powered by large language models. This
allows users to search for content, adjust settings, or request information
using conversational voice commands.
The Freestyle+ reflects a broader shift in consumer electronics toward
devices that adapt to their surroundings rather than requiring carefully
controlled environments.
Traditional projectors assume flat white walls and fixed placement. In
real homes, however, surfaces are rarely perfect. By using AI to correct
geometry, focus, and color automatically, the Freestyle+ removes many of the
barriers that previously made portable projection inconvenient.
For renters, students, or anyone who frequently changes spaces, a screen
that can appear on almost any surface without setup offers a more flexible
alternative to traditional televisions.
Samsung introduced the Freestyle+ ahead of CES 2026 in Las Vegas,
with global availability expected during the first half of 2026.
