With stress-related disorders on the rise globally, there’s increasing interest in non-pharmacological ways to regulate the nervous system.
Pulsetto is a wearable health device developed in Lithuania that uses targeted electrical stimulation to activate the vagus nerve — a key communication line between the brain and the body.
The approach is rooted in decades of research on vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), which has been used in clinical settings for epilepsy and depression. Pulsetto aims to make this technique accessible for everyday use, offering a tool to manage stress, improve sleep, and enhance focus in a non-invasive way.
The vagus nerve is part of the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps the body relax after stress. Pulsetto targets this nerve using low-intensity electrical pulses, delivered through two contact points that rest gently on the neck. These pulses are designed to mimic the body’s natural electrical signals, encouraging a calm physiological response.
Users control the device through a companion mobile app, which offers various programs ranging from stress relief and sleep support to energy recovery and focus enhancement. Each program adjusts the frequency and duration of stimulation to suit the intended outcome.
Uses Transcutaneous Vagus Nerve Stimulation (tVNS).
Session duration: 6–20 minutes per day.
Adjustable intensity and stimulation modes.
Bluetooth-enabled, controlled via smartphone app.
Pulsetto is intended for individuals experiencing chronic stress, difficulty sleeping, or general mental fatigue. By engaging the vagus nerve, it helps shift the body from a state of heightened alertness (sympathetic nervous system) to one of recovery and relaxation (parasympathetic state).
Stress management during workdays or travel
Winding down before sleep
Regulating breathing and heart rate after physical activity
Supporting mental clarity during focus sessions
User feedback suggests noticeable improvements in perceived calmness, heart rate variability, and sleep patterns over time. However, results may vary, and the device is not a substitute for clinical treatment when medically necessary.
The device is compact, wearable, and designed for comfort during daily routines. It fits securely around the neck and is built with skin-safe materials. Battery life supports multiple sessions per day, and charging is handled via USB-C.
Low-voltage stimulation
Session time limits
Manual override and pause features in the app
While Pulsetto is not a certified medical device, its design is informed by evidence-based principles of vagus nerve stimulation widely documented in scientific research.
As mental health concerns grow globally, accessible tools for self-regulation are becoming increasingly valuable. Pulsetto offers a portable, drug-free solution that supports the body’s own mechanisms for reducing stress and promoting balance.
It reflects a broader shift in health technology — one that focuses on preventative care, nervous system support, and human-centered design.
