Taking notes during conversations usually means
switching attention between the discussion and writing things down. Open Vision
Engineering noticed this problem and built Pocket, a small device designed to
capture what people say without needing to type or check a phone. The idea is
simple: press a button to record, and the device handles the rest. This
approach lets people stay focused on conversations instead of managing apps or
screens.
The device works through a single button press.
Three built-in microphones pick up voices from across the room or capture phone
calls when placed against the phone's back. Unlike note-taking apps that
require opening your phone and navigating menus, Pocket starts recording
immediately. It attaches magnetically to compatible phones or fits in a pocket.
The battery lasts about four days before needing a charge.
Once you stop recording, Pocket processes the
audio and creates several useful outputs. The device stores recordings
internally, then syncs with a companion app on your phone or computer when
connected. Behind the scenes, it uses AI technology to understand what was said
and organize it in helpful ways.
The system creates three main things from each
recording. First, it writes out everything that was said as text you can read
and search through. Second, it pulls out a summary highlighting the main points
discussed. Third, it identifies any tasks or action items mentioned during the
conversation. For longer or complex discussions, it can also create visual
diagrams showing how different topics connect to each other. The device works
in over 120 languages, making it useful for international conversations.
The small size makes Pocket practical for
various settings. Weighing about as much as a handful of coins, it works well
for business meetings, therapy sessions, personal brainstorming, or casual
conversations you want to remember. The microphones can pick up voices from
across a medium-sized room. If the internet isn't available, the device still
records everything and processes it later when the connection returns.
Two service levels determine which features you
can access. The basic version lets you record unlimited conversations and get
transcripts and summaries without ongoing payments. These recordings stay
available for a month. The advanced version keeps recordings permanently,
offers more detailed speaker identification, allows deeper customization of how
summaries are formatted, and connects with other productivity tools people
commonly use. Both versions protect your privacy through encryption, storing conversations
securely either on your device or on protected servers in the United States.
