New York City has opened a new climate
innovation hub at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, called BATWorks. This 200,000-square-foot facility is now one of the city’s most ambitious clean-tech efforts.
Over the next decade, BATWorks will support
around 150 climate-focused startups. These companies will develop practical
solutions to reduce emissions, improve energy systems, and support a more
sustainable future.
The initiative also focuses on workforce
development, equity, and long-term economic growth.
BATWorks is much more than office space. It's a
platform for ideas and local talent.
Startups will have access to affordable labs
and workspaces designed for green innovation. They’ll receive technical
support, mentorship, and opportunities to partner with universities, investors,
and nonprofits.
Equally important, the hub will offer hands-on
job training for New Yorkers looking to build careers in the clean economy.
From solar installation to green manufacturing, the goal is to match new jobs
with real community needs.
Climate change presents both a challenge and an
opportunity. BATWorks is designed to meet both.
City officials anticipate that the hub will support over 4,000 jobs and generate up to $2.6 billion in economic impact. It also
reinforces Brooklyn’s role in shaping the future of green business and climate
technology.
By investing in local companies and building a
trained workforce, BATWorks helps ensure that New York’s climate goals also
deliver results for the people who live and work in the state.
BATWorks is still relatively new, but it has already established itself as a strong model for climate action through innovation.
By bringing startups, workers, and public partners together in one space, the hub is creating a blueprint that other cities may follow. It's not just about technology. It’s about building a future that is
sustainable, local, and inclusive.
