No Passport? Just Walk Through

Dubai is testing a walk-through immigration system that scans your face and eyes in seconds. No passport. No stopping. No contact.

Dubai International Airport has launched a new kind of immigration experience. It is called the Red-Carpet Smart Corridor.

Instead of lining up to show your passport, you simply walk through a corridor. As you move, cameras scan your face and eyes. The system confirms your identity in real time. You don’t need to stop, speak, or hand over documents.

This is a major step toward a more efficient, contact-free airport journey.

How the System Works

The corridor uses biometric recognition and artificial intelligence to identify travellers.

Here is how it works:

  • You enter the corridor and walk normally
  • Cameras scan your facial features and eyes
  • The system checks this data against immigration records
  • If everything matches, you are automatically cleared
  • If there is a problem, officers are alerted quietly

Each person is cleared in just six to fourteen seconds. The system can process up to ten travellers at the same time. It is currently available in Terminal 3 for arriving passengers.

What Changes for Travellers

This new system transforms the immigration process into something quick and simple.

Here’s what it means for travellers:

  • No need to show passports or boarding passes
  • Less waiting time, especially during busy hours
  • Families and groups can go through together
  • There is no need to interact with officers unless required
  • The process feels faster, calmer, and more modern

Passengers walk through smoothly while the system works in the background.

Why Dubai Introduced It

This project is part of Dubai’s broader goals to improve travel and public services through technology.

The Red-Carpet Smart Corridor supports two major strategies:

  • The UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031
  • The Dubai Economic Agenda D33

Dubai International Airport handled over 86 million passengers in 2024. With numbers growing, this system helps the airport stay efficient without adding more counters or staff.
