Lexus Takes Its Idea of Mobility Out to Sea

Lexus announced on September 25, 2026, that it is expanding sales of its LY680 luxury yacht beyond Japan, where the vessel first went on sale in 2024, into international markets. The move follows the yacht's global debut in March 2026, and Lexus plans to show the LY680 to American buyers at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida from October 28 to November 1, 2026. Lexus Chief Branding Officer Simon Humphries described the yacht as part of a wider ambition for the brand that goes beyond cars, framing it as "360 degrees of mobility" across land, sea and air.

A Bigger Flybridge and a Longer Swim Platform

The LY680 is an evolution of the LY650, the yacht Lexus introduced in 2019. Compared with its predecessor, Lexus extended the flybridge by about 1,400 millimeters, giving it room for a lounge sofa and an optional barbecue grill, and extended the rear swimming platform by 700 millimeters to make space for activities like launching personal watercraft. The yacht measures 20.63 meters, or 68 feet, in length and 5.76 meters wide, with three cabins that sleep up to six guests and a maximum capacity of 15 people on board.

Two Volvo Penta IPS 1350/1050 engines power the LY680, paired with a 4,012-liter fuel tank and an 852-liter fresh water tank. Lexus says the yacht was engineered around stable handling, a comfortable ride and quiet cruising.

Designing a Hideout on the Water

Lexus built the LY680 around its "Crafted" design philosophy and L-finesse aesthetic, the same visual language found across its car lineup, applied here under a theme the company calls "Discover Escapism." The goal, according to Lexus, is for the yacht to feel like a private hideout in the middle of the sea, with onboard spaces detailed closely enough to give guests a sense of calm rather than just a place to travel.

Built With a Taiwanese Shipbuilder

Lexus doesn't build the LY680 itself. The yacht is produced by Horizon Group, a Taiwan-based luxury yacht manufacturer, under a partnership that combines Horizon's shipbuilding craftsmanship with the Toyota Production System, the manufacturing methodology Toyota developed for its car factories. Horizon Group CEO John Lu said the company was "deeply honored to have been chosen as a partner of Lexus."

Lexus's Second Yacht

The LY680 is the second production yacht Lexus has built, after the LY650 that reached customers in 2019, itself following a Sport Yacht Concept the brand first showed in January 2017. This marks the first time either yacht has gone on sale outside Japan. Lexus Marine Business Division Deputy General Manager Go Hayashi said the LY680 "brings the values Lexus has cultivated to the sea, embodying a new future of mobility that seamlessly connects land, sea, and air."
