Most coffee grinders are built to be good enough. The LAGOM 01 was built to a tolerance of 0.01 millimetres, and every decision inside it was made with one goal in mind.

The LAGOM 01 is a flat burr coffee grinder
built around a principle most grinder manufacturers never commit to fully. That
precision in grinding is not a feature. It is the foundation on which everything else
depends. Most grinders introduce small misalignments during manufacturing,
accumulate tolerances across assembled components, and require recalibration
after cleaning. The result is inconsistency that the user compensates for
manually, adjusting and re-adjusting to chase a stable result. Option-O built the
LAGOM 01 from the ground up to remove that variable entirely.
Every critical component in the LAGOM 01 is
machined to a tolerance of plus or minus 0.01 millimetres, ten microns. That
level of precision is not typical in consumer or prosumer grinding equipment.
The unibody design minimises what engineers call the tolerance stack, the
accumulation of small misalignments across multiple assembled parts that
collectively degrade performance. Each component undergoes thorough quality
control checks before leaving production. The practical outcome is a grinder
that delivers excellent burr alignment straight out of the box, without any
setup ritual, and maintains that alignment even after complete disassembly and
reassembly for cleaning.
That last point deserves its own attention.
Cleaning a high-precision grinder has always been a compromise. Disassemble it,
lose your calibration, and spend time finding it again. The LAGOM 01 uses a
precision zero-calibration system that allows full disassembly and reassembly, with grind settings returning exactly to their previous position. No
recalibration required. No loss of setting. For a professional barista running
multiple grind profiles across a service, or a home brewer who cleans
regularly, that alone removes a significant source of frustration from the
workflow.
The LAGOM 01 ships with in-house developed
Mizen burrs in XL 102mm blind burr format, larger than the 98mm industry
standard. Eliminating the mounting screw holes from the blind burr design
increases the effective grinding surface area by approximately 18 percent
within the same compact housing. The geometry and surface characteristics of
the Mizen burrs are optimised specifically for modern light roast specialty
coffee, designed to improve flavour separation and produce clarity in the cup.
A built-in static reduction system eliminates the need for the Ross Droplet
Technique in most environments, dispensing grounds evenly into the portafilter
without static-related scatter. Grind retention sits below 0.1 grams.
