What Is the Alliants Digital Key?

Hotel access has long depended on a simple but fixed process. Guests arrive, check in at reception, receive a physical key card, and use it to enter their room. While digital booking and payment have evolved, this step has remained largely unchanged.

The Alliants Digital Key introduces a different approach. It is a contactless access system that allows guests to use their smartphone or smartwatch as a room key. Once check-in is completed, a secure digital credential is sent directly to the guest’s device, enabling immediate access without requiring a physical card.

This shifts room entry from a physical interaction to a digital one, removing the need for manual key distribution.

How the System Works in Practice

Digital Key Issuance

After completing check-in, the system generates a secure digital key linked to the guest’s reservation. This key is delivered through channels such as SMS, email, or mobile wallet platforms, eliminating the need for a dedicated application.

Device-Based Access

The guest’s device communicates with the door lock using secure wireless technologies such as NFC or Bluetooth. When the device is brought close to the lock, the system verifies the credential and grants access.

Automated Access Control

The digital key is time-bound and connected to the hotel’s internal systems. It activates at check-in and deactivates automatically at checkout. Access permissions can also be updated or revoked instantly.

What Changes in the Guest Experience

The introduction of digital access changes how guests move through the hotel environment.

Instead of following a fixed sequence — arrival, check-in, key collection — the process becomes more direct. Guests can proceed to their room immediately upon arrival, reducing waiting time and minimizing interaction steps.

Additional changes include:

  • No need to carry or manage physical key cards
  • Reduced risk of lost or demagnetized keys
  • Ability to share access digitally when needed

These adjustments simplify the overall experience without requiring new behavior from the user.

A Shift From Physical Keys to Digital Access

The Alliants Digital Key reflects a broader transition in service design. Physical tools that once required in-person exchange are increasingly being replaced by digital alternatives linked to personal devices.

In hospitality, this shift extends beyond room access. Booking, payment, and communication have already moved to digital platforms. Access is now following the same direction, becoming part of a fully connected system.

Rather than introducing a new technology, the innovation lies in how existing technologies are combined to remove friction from a well-established process.
