The Honda Autonomous Work Vehicle (AWV) is a compact,
all-electric machine built to handle the repetitive and physically demanding
tasks that often slow workers down. It can carry tools, supplies, and materials
across large sites without a driver and can also be operated remotely or
manually when needed.
The AWV navigates using GPS, cameras, radar, and LiDAR
sensors. These tools help it understand its surroundings, avoid obstacles, and
move safely through busy or uneven terrain. Honda designed the vehicle to
support daily work in places where long walking distances, rough ground, and
heavy loads are part of the job.
Across these trials, the AWV showed that it can repeat
tasks consistently, adjust to changing surroundings, and reduce the need for
manual transport work.
Honda built the AWV to act as a dependable support vehicle
that fills the gap between small tools and large machinery.
Honda is now testing the AWV with partners on active
worksites to understand how it performs during daily operations. These trials
help refine its navigation system, improve durability, and strengthen safety
features based on real field conditions.
As more organizations test the vehicle, Honda plans to
expand its autonomous capabilities and move closer to commercial release. The
goal is to create a dependable work vehicle that reduces physical labor,
supports teams more efficiently, and operates cleanly on electric power.
