Across Europe, governments are rapidly modernizing the way they deliver public services.

In Greece, GR digiGOV‑innoHUB is leading this effort. This national innovation hub connects ministries, research institutions, and technology partners to drive forward the country’s digital transformation. By focusing on digital infrastructure, AI adoption, and public sector upskilling, the initiative is reshaping how the government interacts with its citizens.

What is GR digiGOV‑innoHUB?

GR digiGOV‑innoHUB is one of Greece’s key efforts to modernize public administration. Coordinated by GRNET, it brings together various public stakeholders to test and implement new technologies. The program is part of the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) network, which aims to help governments across the EU become more digitally capable.

Building Digital Skills in the Public Sector

A major focus of the hub is training and capacity-building. GR digiGOV‑innoHUB runs the DigiGov Academy, which offers courses, resources, and peer learning to enhance the digital skills of civil servants and IT staff. Public employees learn how to use modern tools, manage digital projects, and apply data responsibly in daily operations.

Support includes:
  • Online and in-person training programs.

  • Workshops for hands-on practice with new technologies.

  • Mentorship and expert consultation.

  • Tools to measure digital readiness.

Exploring AI in Government Services

The hub is also helping public agencies explore the safe and ethical use of AI in government. Pilot projects focus on automating repetitive tasks, improving decision-making with real-time data, and testing algorithms that can assist in delivering more personalized services.

Early projects involve:
  • AI-assisted document processing.

  • Data analytics platforms for policy planning.

  • Virtual assistants for citizen interaction.

  • Tools to ensure transparency and privacy in AI use.

Services and Support Offered

To help government institutions at all levels, GR digiGOV‑innoHUB offers a wide range of support services.

These include:
  • Assessments to measure an organization’s digital maturity.

  • “Test-before-invest” environments for new solutions.

  • Access to high-performance computing and cloud platforms.

  • Advice on public procurement and EU funding opportunities.

Why It Matters

Greece is taking major steps toward a smarter public sector. With its focus on digital infrastructure, practical use of AI, and better digital education for government workers, GR digiGOV‑innoHUB is creating long-term value for both institutions and citizens. This initiative supports not only the modernization of services but also helps Greece align with broader European digital priorities.
