Traditional portable LED lights depend on
external power sources or larger battery packs, limiting mobile shooting
scenarios. Godox, a manufacturer of photographic equipment, developed the
ML40Bi and ML40R as compact LED video lights featuring integrated power
systems. Both models function as standalone units without requiring external
batteries or cords.
The lights measure 97 × 46 × 91 millimeters and
weigh approximately 422 grams. The compact dimensions allow the units to fit
into camera bags, backpacks, or coat pockets. A built-in magnetic mount enables
attachment to metal surfaces without additional accessories.
Each unit contains a 3.63V lithium battery with
4800mAh capacity and 17.424Wh energy storage. The battery delivers continuous
operation for approximately 42 minutes at full brightness. USB-C ports support
charging at multiple power levels: 5V at 3 amps, 9V at 3 amps, 12V at 3 amps,
or 20V at 5 amps, with maximum input reaching 60 watts. Charging time from
depleted to full capacity takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Charge-while-shooting capability allows continued operation during battery
replenishment through USB-C connection.
The ML40Bi provides a color temperature range
from 2800 Kelvin to 6500 Kelvin. The ML40R extends the color range to 1800
Kelvin to 10000 Kelvin. Both models achieve color rendering index values of
approximately 96 (ML40Bi) and 95 (ML40R). Television lighting consistency index
measurements reach approximately 96 (ML40Bi) and 95 (ML40R).
The lights support multiple control interfaces.
NFC pairing enables wireless connection. The Godox Light App provides full
parameter adjustment. Direct onboard controls allow operation without external
devices.
The ML40Bi includes 11 dynamic effects modes.
The ML40R provides 14 dynamic effects modes. Both units support brightness
adjustment from 0 percent to 100 percent.
The ML-L10 Lens Reflector, sold separately,
connects to both models through a snap-on interface. The reflector increases
light output by approximately 24 times on the ML40Bi and 16 times on the ML40R
compared to bare output. The reflector generates focused beam patterns with
stable output characteristics.
Both lights support the Godox Mount accessory
ecosystem. This mounting system accommodates various light shapers, diffusers,
reflectors, and mounting hardware designed to work across Godox's product line.
The lights operate within ambient temperature
ranges from- 10 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. An
optimized heat-dissipation system manages thermal output during extended
high-brightness operation, maintaining stable light output throughout the
runtime period.
Brightness adjustment spans the full 0 to 100
percent range through app control or onboard interface. The lights operate at
full output capacity or reduced levels depending on runtime requirements.
