In May 2025, Germany took a big step toward
fixing its slow and fragmented public service systems. It created the Federal Ministry for Digital
Transformation and Government Modernization, a new department designed
to take control of how digital projects are planned, approved, and implemented
across the country.

managed by different ministries and agencies, leading to delays, inconsistent
systems, and frustrated users. With this new ministry, the goal is to
centralize efforts, avoid duplication, and set clearer digital priorities

This move is expected to lead to noticeable
changes for everyday users of government services:

modernization, the government is aiming to fix the most common complaints
people have when dealing with public offices.
