Indoor Smoker
The GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker was introduced in January 2024 as part
of GE’s innovation lineup. Unlike outdoor pellet grills, it was designed to
function safely indoors, bringing wood-fired cooking into kitchens where smoke
would normally be a problem. The centerpiece of this design is the Active
Smoke Filtration system, which allows real pellets to burn for flavor while
keeping the kitchen air breathable by transforming smoke into warm air. This
balance between tradition and technology makes the smoker stand out: it
preserves the deep flavor profile that pellets provide while removing the
barrier that smoke creates for apartment dwellers or homes without outdoor
space.
By placing the smoker directly on a countertop, GE effectively changes
the smoking experience into something as accessible as a slow cooker or oven.
It marks a shift from smoking as an outdoor hobby to a convenient method of
everyday cooking. The introduction of this appliance highlights how modern
design can simplify long, complex cooking techniques while still honoring the
authentic process.
The technology inside the smoker relies on two independent heat
sources. One ignites the pellets to generate real smoke, and the other
carefully controls the cooking temperature. This separation ensures that both
elements—flavor and precision—remain consistent throughout the cooking process.
For users, it means they can adjust smoke intensity without losing control of
how their food cooks.
The smoker also includes five adjustable smoke levels, offering a
range from light, aromatic touches to rich, full-bodied smoke. To simplify the
process further, it provides six preset cooking modes, each fine-tuned
for different dishes such as ribs, brisket, salmon, chicken wings, chicken
breast, and pork butt. These modes reduce the need for guesswork, helping even
beginners produce reliable results. A “keep warm” setting maintains food after
it is done cooking, and a custom option allows experienced users to experiment
with their own timings and preferences.
The smoker’s design emphasizes convenience as much as cooking
performance. Instead of requiring constant attention, its Smoke and Hold
mode automatically transitions from cooking to warming, giving users the
freedom to focus on other tasks while food stays ready. An integrated meat
probe helps avoid under- or overcooking, giving accurate readings without
opening the smoker.
Maintenance has also been carefully considered. The smoker uses a pellet
capture system that extinguishes and collects used pellets in water, which
simplifies cleaning and prevents waste. Combined with dishwasher-safe
components, it reduces the effort needed after cooking—a notable improvement
compared to outdoor smokers.
The build reflects durable and practical materials, including
enamel-coated steel and interior lighting for visibility. Despite being compact
enough for the counter, it accommodates substantial meals, making it suitable
for family use. Recognition from TIME magazine as one of 2024’s Best
Inventions demonstrates its impact as a product that rethinks how
traditional smoking can adapt to modern living.
