INTRODUCTION

When Porsche builds an electric SUV, it brings together power, precision, and decades of performance engineering. When Austrian boatbuilder Frauscher takes that same electric drive system and brings it to the water, the result is not just another electric boat. It is a new way to imagine marine performance.

The Frauscher x Porsche 790 Spectre made its world premiere at boot Düsseldorf 2026 as an electric sports boat built around the fully electric powertrain of the Porsche Macan. Its high-voltage battery, rear-axle motor, and control electronics come from the Macan Turbo, while Frauscher developed a new lightweight hull around that system.

This is not electric boating as a quiet compromise. It is electric boating as a performance statement. With 400 kW of peak power, fast charging, and a top speed of 95 km/h, the 790 Spectre shows how automotive electric performance can move from the road to open water.

Automotive Power Meets Marine Engineering

The technical foundation of the 790 Spectre comes directly from Porsche’s electric vehicle platform. The boat uses a 100 kWh battery and a 400 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, giving it the power needed for high-performance marine use.

However, Frauscher did not simply place an electric motor inside an existing boat. The company developed a new lightweight hull specifically for this model. That matters because boats face different forces than cars. Weight distribution, water resistance, stability, and range all depend on how the hull is shaped around the power system.

The result is a sports boat that feels connected to Porsche’s electric DNA while still behaving like a true Frauscher boat. It combines instant torque, quiet operation, and refined handling with the craftsmanship expected from a premium marine brand.

Built for Speed and Real Use

The 790 Spectre is designed for both performance and practical day trips. It reaches a top speed of 95 km/h and cruises at around 41 km/h. At cruising speed, the range is about 45 km. At displacement speed, where the boat moves more efficiently through the water, the range can exceed 100 km.

This flexibility is important. The boat can deliver fast, energetic runs across the water, but it can also slow down for longer, quieter journeys. That gives owners more control over how they use the boat, depending on distance, mood, and conditions.

Charging is another key part of the innovation. The boat supports charging power above 250 kW and can charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. This makes electric boating more practical because it reduces the waiting time that usually limits battery-powered marine vehicles.

A Porsche Experience on the Water

The 790 Spectre includes four drive modes, ranging from Docking to Sport Plus. Docking mode supports careful low-speed movement near marinas, while Sport Plus unlocks the boat’s strongest performance.

This detail makes the boat feel closer to a Porsche experience than a traditional electric vessel. It is not only about speed. It is also about control, response, and confidence in different situations.

That balance is especially useful on water, where precision matters. A boat needs to move gently near docks, react smoothly in tight spaces, and still deliver power when the driver wants a more dynamic ride.

Design Across Road and Water

To highlight the connection between both worlds, Porsche also introduced the Macan Turbo Concept Lago alongside the boat. The concept SUV shares several design details with the 790 Spectre, including maritime-inspired elements and Darkteal Metallic paint from Porsche’s Paint to Sample program.

The boat also carries Porsche design references throughout its details. The interior includes Porsche-inspired instruments, a steering wheel with Porsche styling, and a start button positioned to the left of the steering wheel, similar to Porsche sports cars.

This makes the collaboration feel deeper than a simple branding exercise. Porsche brings electric performance and design identity, while Frauscher brings marine craftsmanship and hull expertise.

Comfort Without Losing Performance

The onboard experience is designed for premium day boating. The 790 Spectre offers space for seven people and includes a 12-inch display, ambient lighting, bow thruster, electric anchor, fridge drawer, and high-end audio.

These features are not only luxury details. They make the boat easier and more enjoyable to use. The bow thruster helps with marina handling. The electric anchor adds convenience. The fridge drawer supports longer trips. The quiet electric drive also creates a calmer onboard atmosphere compared with combustion-powered boats.

This is where the boat’s value becomes clear. It is not only fast. It is also quieter, cleaner at the point of use, and more refined for passengers.

Why This Innovation Matters

Electric marine mobility has often faced one major challenge: perception. Many people still associate electric boats with limited range, slow speeds, or compromise. The Frauscher x Porsche 790 Spectre challenges that image directly.

By using a proven Porsche electric drive system and building a purpose-designed boat around it, Frauscher shows that electric propulsion can support premium marine performance. The boat does not ask users to choose between speed and sustainability. Instead, it brings both into one product.

Its impact is also symbolic. When brands like Porsche and Frauscher invest in electric marine performance, they help move the category forward. They show that electric boats can be desirable, powerful, and practical enough for real use.
