Pod
6 is Eight Sleep's newest generation of its intelligent mattress cooling
system, a cover that fits over an existing mattress and independently heats or
cools each side of the bed. Compared with the previous generation, Eight Sleep
states that the Hub that powers the system is now smaller and fits under most bed
frames, temperature adjustments arrive 20% faster, and the cover contains 9
times more biometric sensors, all while starting at a lower price than before.
Each
side of the bed can be set anywhere from 55°F to 110°F, and Eight Sleep states that one side has zero effect on the other, letting two people sleep at completely
different temperatures on the same mattress. A redesigned thermal engine
delivers relief from hot flashes, night sweats, or sudden chills 20% faster
than the previous generation. The Hub that drives this system was rebuilt to be smaller, specifically so it fits discreetly under most existing bed frames
rather than requiring extra clearance.
Pod
6 packs 9 times more biometric sensors into the cover compared with the prior
generation, tracking heart rate and sleep stages for each sleeper individually.
Eight Sleep states this holds up in accuracy even when a couple sleeps close
together, or when kids or pets end up in the bed during the night. The company
describes this tracking as clinical-grade, delivered through the companion app
alongside a nightly sleep score.
Once
a bedtime is set, Pod 6 begins adjusting each side's temperature an hour
beforehand based on a sleeper's profile and any connected health apps. Through
fitness app integration, an intense workout logged during the day can trigger
cooler temperatures that night specifically to support recovery. The system
also adjusts automatically around hormonal changes, offering rapid cooling
during hot flashes or gradual shifts through pregnancy. A separate add-on
called the Base can detect snoring and quietly raise the sleeper's head to
reduce it, with Eight Sleep citing a clinical study showing up to a 45%
reduction. Beyond nighttime use, the system supports timed daytime naps and
shifts a sleeper's recommended sleep window ahead of travel to help reduce jet
lag.
Eight
Sleep states its in-house research team includes more than 12 PhDs and sleep
scientists, and has conducted over 50 clinical studies on the Pod's
effectiveness. The company cites specific published results: up to 44% less
time to fall asleep, up to 34% more deep sleep, and a 32% average increase in
sleep quality scores. Neuroscientists Andrew Huberman, a Stanford professor,
and Matthew Walker, a UC Berkeley professor and bestselling sleep science
author, both sit on Eight Sleep's scientific advisory board.
