Egypt’s Digital Egypt initiative, launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, represents a long-term national effort to modernize how citizens interact with the state.
Anchored in the country’s Vision 2030 development strategy, it aims to consolidate fragmented services into a unified digital platform while expanding digital infrastructure and inclusion.
The central platform—digital.gov.eg—offers a wide range of government services online, including civil status updates, vehicle licensing, legal procedures, electricity payments, and agricultural permits. Citizens can access services through the website, mobile app, call centers, and designated post offices.
To support this platform, more than 33,000 government buildings have been connected through a secure network. This allows for real-time data exchange between ministries and agencies, reducing inefficiencies and duplicate processes. Services previously limited by geography or bureaucracy are now accessible to any citizen with a digital ID and a connected device.
Electronic payment integration—through bank cards, mobile wallets, and Egypt Post—enables seamless financial transactions. Digital signatures, managed by Egypt’s Root Certificate Authority, further reduce the need for physical paperwork.
Alongside technical infrastructure, the government has prioritized digital literacy. The Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI) offers training programs at the master’s level in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics. These are supported by international tech partners and target youth, women, persons with disabilities, and public servants.
These training programs aim to ensure that both government employees and the general population can meaningfully participate in and benefit from the country’s digital shift.
Digital Egypt is a foundational element of the country’s broader Vision 2030 plan. It supports better governance, improved public access to services, and a stronger digital economy. The initiative also sets the stage for greater innovation in sectors like education, healthcare, and commerce, offering a scalable model for modern statecraft in the region.
