Cracking
an egg is a small task, but it's one of the last steps between waking up and
actually eating breakfast, and it's the step CHEFFY built its first product to
remove entirely. EGOR, short for Efficient Gastronomic Operational Robot, is an
automatic egg cooking robot from the San Francisco startup, designed to load a
whole, uncracked egg and hand back a cooked one, no shell involved at any point
a person touches the food. It's paired with a companion appliance called
TOASTR, a toaster built to finish bread at the same moment EGOR finishes the
eggs.
Both
products are currently in a crowdfunding stage rather than general retail.
CHEFFY's own campaign page shows pledges climbing past the million-dollar mark
from thousands of backers, funded well beyond its original goal. Founder Arjun
Mehta has framed the company's mission around mornings specifically, describing
rushed breakfasts as a disruption to an otherwise productive day.
CHEFFY
describes EGOR's core mechanism only as patent-pending technology, without
disclosing how the cracking process works internally. What the company does
specify is the outcome: a whole egg goes in, and the machine cracks it without
shell fragments reaching the food, then cooks it using one of seven methods,
spanning styles like sunny side up, over easy, over medium, over hard, soft
boiled, medium boiled, and hard boiled, or simply performs the crack alone and
leaves the cooking to the user. A single run can prepare up to two fried eggs
or six boiled eggs at once.
TOASTR
complements this by automating the other half of a cooked breakfast. It raises
and lowers bread automatically, works with thick slices, bagels, and waffles,
and includes a crumb tray for cleanup. According to CHEFFY, TOASTR times itself
against EGOR's cook cycle so that eggs and toast are ready within moments of
each other, rather than one item going cold while the other finishes.
The
scheduling feature is central to how CHEFFY pitches the product. A person can
set EGOR to have eggs ready immediately, after a set delay such as the length
of a shower, or at a specific time tied to a calendar event like a meeting.
Once started, the device manages timing on its own rather than requiring anyone
to watch a stove or reset a timer partway through. A keep-warm function holds
finished eggs at serving temperature until someone is ready to eat, and TOASTR
can also be used as a standalone toaster independent of EGOR's schedule.
Both
machines share the same eggshell-white finish and are built to work with common
household ingredients rather than anything proprietary: any store-bought or
farm-fresh chicken egg from peewee to jumbo size, and any bread, bagel, or
waffle a household already has on hand. Every removable part, including the
fried-egg pan and boiled-egg tray, is listed as dishwasher-safe, positioning
cleanup as a deliberate design goal rather than an afterthought.
CHEFFY
says EGOR can do more than cook a basic breakfast, pointing to uses that extend
past a standard breakfast plate: deviled eggs, burgers, rice bowls, avocado
toast, ramen, bagel sandwiches, baked goods, and salads all appear among the
company's suggested uses, treating cooked eggs as an ingredient that shows up
well beyond the breakfast table. The company has also built its campaign around
specific households it's targeting directly, including parents trying to get
kids out the door on time, people with back-to-back morning meetings, and
anyone juggling multiple tasks before a meal.
The
product's feature set has also grown through its crowdfunding structure itself.
CHEFFY's campaign lists funding milestones tied to unlocking additional
capability: voice activation and a companion mobile app were both added once
pledges crossed set funding thresholds, with a further stretch goal targeting
additional functionality if the campaign continues to grow. That means the
version of EGOR that ships could include more than what the base device offered
when the campaign first opened, depending on how far total funding climbs
before the campaign closes.
CHEFFY's
crowdfunding campaign has drawn a large, fast base of support, with its stated
funding total sitting many times above its original goal within its campaign
window. That level of public interest is a genuine data point, but it measures
appetite for the idea, not verified performance of the finished product. As of
now, no independent lab or hands-on review of a finished EGOR unit exists,
since backers are funding a product that has not yet shipped.
Some
public reaction has also questioned the premise directly rather than the
execution: cracking and cooking a single egg by hand takes only a couple of
minutes, and basic electric egg cookers already exist at a small fraction of
EGOR's price. That criticism doesn't necessarily undercut what CHEFFY is
actually offering, which leans more on scheduling and synchronizing a full
breakfast than on cracking speed alone, but it's a fair, publicly raised
question about how much of a problem this specific device solves versus how
much convenience it adds on top of an already simple task.
