The DJI Osmo Action 6 features a variable aperture, 1/1.1-inch square sensor, 8K video, 50GB built-in storage, and 4-hour battery life.
Action cameras have long been defined by fixed
apertures, small sensors, and limited creative control. They were built for
durability and portability, but what they gained in ruggedness they
consistently lost in image quality, low-light performance, and creative
flexibility. For filmmakers, athletes, and content creators who demand more
than just a tough camera that records footage, the gap between what action
cameras offered and what the moment actually required has remained largely
unaddressed.
The DJI Osmo Action 6 is an all-in-one flagship
action camera built around two core innovations that set it apart from every
action camera that came before it. The first is a variable aperture ranging
from f/2.0 to f/4.0, making it DJI's first action camera to break away from the
traditional fixed-aperture design. The second is an all-new 1/1.1-inch square
sensor, the largest ever used in a DJI action camera, designed to deliver
significantly improved image quality across a wider range of shooting conditions.
Together, these two features represent a fundamental shift in what an action
camera is capable of capturing.
The variable aperture is the defining
innovation of the Osmo Action 6. At f/2.0, the camera excels in low-light
environments, capturing noticeably brighter and more detailed footage in
conditions where other action cameras would struggle. At f/4.0, the wider depth
of field makes it ideal for landscape and wide-angle shots where sharp focus
across the entire frame is critical. This range of aperture control, combined
with an ISO range reaching up to 51200 in SuperNight mode, means the camera
adapts to the shooting environment rather than forcing the user to adapt to the
camera's limitations.
The 1/1.1-inch square sensor is not simply a
larger sensor. It is a fundamentally different approach to how an action camera
captures the world. By using a square format, the Osmo Action 6 supports
multiple aspect ratios natively, including 16:9, 4:3, and 9:16, without
cropping or sacrificing resolution. It enables 8K video recording at up to
30fps, a maximum photo resolution of 7168×5376, and supports slow motion up to
8x at 1080p and 4x at 4K. The sensor also supports D-Log M color profile for
professional post-production workflows.
Beyond its imaging capabilities, the Osmo
Action 6 is engineered to perform in demanding physical conditions. It is
waterproof to 20 meters without any additional case, and up to 60 meters with
the optional Waterproof Case, both carrying an IP68 rating. The battery
delivers up to 4 hours of recording time and is rated to operate in
temperatures as low as -20°C, making it suitable for cold-weather environments
where most cameras fail. It also features 50GB of built-in storage out of a
total 64GB capacity, three built-in microphones, RockSteady 3.0 electronic
image stabilization with HorizonSteady support, and a direct microphone
connection system called OsmoAudio for external audio input. Both the front
1.46-inch and rear 2.5-inch touchscreens reach a brightness of 800 cd/m² for
visibility in direct sunlight.
