DJI O4: Drone Signal Reaches Far Away

The Signal Problem

Drones need a constant signal to work. Without a signal, the drone is blind. The operator cannot see the video. The operator cannot send commands. Most places have a signal from cell towers. But remote areas do not. Mountains block the signal. Valleys block signal. Forests block the signal. Search and rescue teams cannot reach remote areas. On June 16, 2026, DJI announced the O4 Ground Station to solve this.

How It Works

The O4 is a small box with 12 antennas. You place it on high ground in remote areas. It receives signals from drones far away. It sends a signal back to the control center. It works like a bridge between the drone and the operator. The antenna system is smart. It picks the best antenna automatically. It picks the best signal band automatically. Even in bad conditions, the signal works. The box uses very little power. When waiting, it uses only 7 watts. A solar panel can power it easily. A battery can power it for days.

Two Simple Modes

The O4 has Gateway Mode. In Gateway Mode, the box connects to the internet. It sends drone video to the FlightHub 2 software. FlightHub 2 is DJI's control system in the cloud. The operator sits anywhere with internet. The operator sees drone video and sends commands. This mode extends signal reach up to 30 kilometers. Additionally, setup is simple. You just turn it on and connect to the internet.

The O4 also has Relay Mode. In Relay Mode, no internet is needed. The box receives a signal from the drone directly. It passes a signal to another receiver. That receiver connects to the operator's control station. This mode reaches up to 40 kilometers. Furthermore, this mode works anywhere. You need no internet. You need no cell towers.

Search and rescue teams use it. They search for missing people in the mountains. Without O4, they cannot reach the area. With O4, their drones reach far and stay connected. Inspection teams use it. Hardware Built Strong

The O4 is built for outdoor work. It uses an IP67 rating. Water cannot damage it. Rain cannot stop it. Dust cannot harm it. The radio unit is very powerful. It sends a strong signal through obstacles. It receives a weak signal from far away. It works with the DJI Dock 3 (automatic drone launcher) and the Matrice 400 (large professional drone). When paired with these, the drone can reach areas 40 kilometers away. The drone returns automatically. Another drone launches automatically. The system runs itself.
