As electric vehicle (EV) adoption grows, so does the need for efficient and scalable charging solutions. Elonroad, a Swedish company, is addressing this challenge by developing ground-level power supply systems that charge EVs both while parked and in motion. This innovation could reduce charging downtime, extend battery life, and make long-distance electric travel more practical.
Elonroad’s system consists of conductive rails embedded in or mounted onto roads. These rails deliver power directly to EVs equipped with a compatible pickup system, allowing vehicles to charge while driving. Unlike traditional charging stations, this dynamic charging approach eliminates the need for long stops to recharge.
Elonroad’s technology is attracting international interest. In 2025, Transport Morneau and Filgo will conduct trials in Canada to test how the system charges electric heavy equipment and trucks. This pilot project will evaluate efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness in real-world conditions.
If successful, charging roads could become a key part of future transportation infrastructure, making EVs more practical for long-haul travel and commercial applications. As trials progress, the world will be watching to see if Elonroad’s technology can redefine the way we power electric vehicles.
