An Active-Cooling Wearable That Uses Sweat to Cool
Mexar
Inc., a Philadelphia company, describes its mission as "Better tools for a
hotter world." Its main product, Mexar Vapor, is "a personal
active-cooling wearable that reduces heat strain," meaning the stress that
heat puts on the body. The company says Vapor was "born out of a research
project at the University of Pennsylvania." It also says industrial
workers have used it in some of America's hottest states, including Texas,
Arizona, Florida and Nevada, through long shifts and hot days.
How It Cools
Vapor
works with the body's own sweat. Mexar says it "utilizes your body sweat
to increase heat removal from the body" and helps lower core temperature,
the temperature deep inside the body. The device creates "a steady flow of
pressurized air beneath your shirt," moving air across the chest, back and
abdomen so sweat evaporates faster. The company calls this an enhancement of
the body's natural evaporative cooling. Mexar describes a patented under-shirt
airflow system and states that Vapor uses no electrical stimulation or
vibration.
Design and Care
Vapor is
worn under a shirt. Its air intakes can be cleaned with compressed air, and the
device can be wiped clean as needed. Mexar says it handles sweat and light
water exposure, but it should not be submerged or exposed to heavy rain, and it
should be dried before storage. Charging is by USB-C. The package includes a
USB-C charging cable, a carry bag, stickers, a quick start guide and a note
from the company.
Where It Is Used
Mexar
offers one path for teams, labeled enterprise, and another for personal use.
The company points to demanding work settings, where Vapor is meant to be used
through long shifts. It also lists personal uses, including workouts, DIY
projects, hiking, outdoor adventures and family time. Mexar says Vapor
complements hydration and rest breaks and does not replace them.
