A Running Shoe With Built-In Sensors and AI Coaching

Avelo Running launched the Supertrainer One on October 20, 2026, according to the banner on its site. It is a running shoe with built-in sensors: "Sensors in each shoe capture the forces of every footstrike." Avelo says the technology is built in, with no charging, attachments or extra hardware. The shoe works with an app and a data service called Personal Running Intelligence, or PRI, which the company describes as "Seamless integration of hardware, software & AI" and lists as patent-pending. Its stated aim is to help runners become faster, stronger and more resilient.

The Shoe

The Supertrainer One weighs 8 ounces in a men's size 9. Stack height is 38 mm at the heel and 30 mm at the forefoot, giving an 8 mm drop. The midsole uses a dual-density TPEE blend of super critical foam, described as giving comfort, pop and support, with an aerated PEBA plate for what Avelo calls a "smooth & propulsive ride." The upper is a seamless, breathable engineered mesh, and the outsole is high-traction rubber. Avelo says it delivers 300+ miles of consistent performance.

The Sensor and Its Data

A sensor embedded in the midsole captures how the runner lands and moves, and Avelo says it "brings lab-grade accuracy to every run." The data comes from 3D motion tracking that measures forces and movement across every stride. Runs are detected automatically, with no buttons or setup. Heart rate from a compatible wearable is needed only for one of the scores, the Efficiency Score. The company positions the sensor and app together as the foundation of PRI.

Four Scores

PRI reports four scores. Impact quantifies the force on the body, and the site notes that each stride loads the body with forces up to five times its weight. Resiliency is a daily readiness score that balances training load and recovery, which Avelo says goes beyond heart-rate-based scores. Form Radar tracks stride over time to build a personal running signature, and flags changes that could signal inefficiency or injury risk. Efficiency measures propulsion against heart rate to show how form, fatigue and training affect performance.

The App and Coaching

The companion app has a Dashboard, Run Details, a Running Signature, an Impact Score and Form Tracking. The Form Tracking screen lists cadence, footstrike pattern, pronation, ground reaction force, ground contact time and ground contact time asymmetry. The app turns this data into coaching, with daily guidance on how much to run, when to push and when to rest. It also sets weekly training targets and suggests workouts and drills.
